--- Testing History ::
OCT. PSAT :: 160
MAR. SAT :: 1740 {CR 520 M 630 W590 }

Should I take the June SAT && get it over with so I don't have to worry about it during summer and go to work { expecting around 1800 - 1850 }
OR
study & take it in fall (October) and hope for a 1900 - 2000?

GPA :: around 3.0 -- 3.2 ish
I have an 85 average.

I plan on going to suny stonybrook
or maybe just a cuny.

do I really need a high sat score to make up for my low gpa?
or is a 1740 okay?
Besides, stonybrook is okay with 1150 ( CR+M ) & I achieved that ^.^

I am an underachiever . . . i know .

Colleges say that a good GPA will make up for a bad SAT score, but a good SAT score can’t make up for a bad GPA. So a high SAT score won’t make up for a low GPA, but it certainly can’t hurt you to have a higher score.

In your case, I don’t exactly know what to do. Go with whatever study plan works better for you: cramming (take it in June) or long-term (take it in October). If you study over the summer you can do a little bit every day, so you could still work. I did that last summer when I took the SATs in October.

FYI: the October SAT typically has a harsher curve than the June one (March is typically the easiest)

I’m taking the SATs in June because I’ll be done with a year’s worth of junior-level English and Math, so my scores should go up.

If you haven’t actually registered for the June test, then it’s too late since the last possible deadline was on Wednesday. But if you’ve already paid for the test, go ahead and take it. Don’t waste $45.

that sucks to hear since my gpa probably suffered due to my studying sat & sleeping in class :/

&& I paid for it, but I just felt like it’s too soon to take it again since I took one in march.

thanks for your advice :]]

although GPA >> SAT (generally speaking)
But in some cases like for example getting in to suny optometry school
they want to see your SAT and didn’t ask for high school transcript.

I guess it can go either way . . .

cunys and sunys for the most part arent competitive; they are easy to get into. if you want to shoot higher in terms of colleges, then you may want to take it both in june and october to get as high a score as possible. if you are surely going to a cuny/suny, then i wouldnt worry about your SAT or your GPA. a 3.0 is good enough for most cunys and sunys. (that is like an 85, correct?)

lolsss

people in my school && college fair make it seem so hard to get into.

it’s not like cuny/suny are definitely the schools im entering.
I just want to do something I will enjoy.
Unlike sci/math <— hate those subjects.
but all the good schools most ppl apply to on CC seems to enjoy those subjects.
so I just want to go to a college near where i live (in the city)
