Should I take more classes?

I'm taking Econ 101, English 124, Calculus II, and Chinese I for 1st semester

That's 17 credits, I believe. If I want to transfer to another top school, should I take 1 more class, or will that be overload?

(I already know Chinese, Calc II, and Econ 101...I self studied the AP books over summer, and I'm chinese myself....so they should be easy A's)

"If I want to transfer to another top school, should I take 1 more class, or will that be overload?"

If you want to look impressive in you application take harder courses, not more easy ones.

you cant take more than 18 credits. I dont know if there are any 1 credit classes..

What are harder classes?

Econ 101 , Calc II I basically HAVE to take

I have to take a language, and Michigan won't let me test out of Chinese I, so I have to take Chinese I.

The English class I don't have to take.
If i want to trasnfer into Business School, what class should I take besides English?

My post was based off of this: (I already know Chinese, Calc II, and Econ 101...I self studied the AP books over summer, and I'm chinese myself....so they should be easy A's)

Have you tried talking to the language department? I honestly doubt that they'll force you to take the first semester class to a language you already know. If you know Econ 101, take Econ 401. If you know Calc II, take Calc III or honors calc II or 295. You're paying out of state tuition... do you really want to pay $28,000 a year to hear lectures on material you already know?

but i don't have CREDIT for those classes

i self study to PREPARE myself for this fall, so I can keep up the A's.

Take this as a grain of salt, as I do not attend the University of Michigan.

I have many friends at Michigan and they have told me that AP Microeconomics is a joke compared to Econ 101. Not to say that it is an overly difficult couse, but know that studying with an AP book will not mean an "easy A."

The same thing applies to Calc II. AP Calculus BC is a very watered-down course. From what I've heard, Calc II is a tough class at Michigan.

I'm sure you'll do fine, but know that the classes will most likely not be easy A's.

wait, your CHinese, and you didn't test out of Chinese I? How does that work assuming you speak some Chinese (as you state above "I already know Chinese")?

I think it's fine that you take the above courses even if you know a bit about them because you prepared yourself. Except chinese. If you really do no a good deal about the language, take the placement test and see what you score, definitely don't just start in first semester because you feel like it.

there IS a placement test for chinese it's offered in the fall sept 1st at 1pm. you need to contact the department and not reach your own conclusions. there are also chinese classes for those who are chinese and can understand it but cannot read or write well.

don't take chinese 1.

If you really want to be successful, I would treat Michigan like you really wanted to get into Ross or if you were attending Wharton or Sloan. Then, if end up having to stay at Michigan, you wouldn't have screwed yourself over AND you'd have a better foundation AND application for if you transfer.
