I just took my October SAT yesterday and I'm not very confident on the critical reading and writing parts. I did worst than I expected on the essay. For me, the math is easy as always, so I don't have any problem with that.
I know have past the regular registration date for the November test, but I'm willing to pay a little extra fee to take if it's possible.
Would you guys recommend taking the SAT I again in November?
I have a TOEFL test two weeks from today (English is not my first language), an ACT three weeks from today, and I'm also planning on taking the DECEMBER SAT II Subject (Chemistry, Physics, and Math II) for the first time. I know it may be a little bit overwhelming, but I think I can manage it since I still have a whole month to prepare for it.
So, do you think it's a waste of time, energy, and money to take it again? Will it be too late for me to submit the application when I receive my November score?
My dream schools are Johns Hopkins University (Biomedical engineering) and the University of Chicago (biochemistry), so I need to have a good score on my SAT to have a fair shoot at these school. I'm also applying to Columbia, UPenn, Rice, Binghamton, SUNY Buffalo, Loyola, NYU, U of Rochester, etc. Obviously, some of them are my safety net schools, but some are really competitive.
So, my question is, should I take the November SAT again? I'm really regretted that I didn't prepare enough before I take the test. I feel like I have improved a lot since the last time I took my SAT (June of my junior year), yet I still think I didn't do very well on it.
I'll appreciate any comment and suggestion!

There isnt time to get your scores to make a decision, so I say go for it and your parents will have to pay the late fee and you will have to pay in blood by studying to make this attempt worthwhile.

Thank you argbargy!
If you don’t mind, would you like to tell me any study tips for the SAT if you have any?
I tried to cram the Sparknotes Top 1000 SAT Words within 5 day period this week and I have managed to memorize 800+ words (don’t ask me why, I just seem to have some unexplainable photographic memory), but then it only helps me on the vocab section. How should I improve my critical reading skill? I read a lot of news, stories, and novels, but I always miss like a quarter of the reading questions. I’m a poor critical reader. I know how to read and I can understand what the passage is trying to say, but I always have trouble reading it “critically” to answer the question in the way they want it. I think the grammar portion comes with practices, so I’m going to practice a little bit more in the next few weeks. Lastly, the essay always seems to be a deadlock for me. I got 8/12 on my first shot, which is a decent score, but I want to improve it a little bit more. I don’t have trouble crafting an essay within 25 minutes (I have 3 minutes left before the time ends on both tests), but I don’t know what I can do to improve my score.
Also, any other general tip would be extremely helpful!

Buy the SAT Prep black book by Mike Barrett. The only thing you need.

The absolutely most important place to start is with
a. understanding how the SAT is organized
b. understand where you are losing points

You wont have time to get the QAS for this test but hopefully you did for your previous attempt. If not take a practice test to see what types of problems and at what difficulty level you are getting wrong.

Its important that your study has focus on those areas you know need help.

You didnt mention what score you are at right now, but one strategy might be not to waste a lot of time on level 5’s and make sure you are nailing the 3 and 4.

Also, I think that your TOEFL score will be more important than your SAT scores, considering that English is not your first language. That’s where your focus should be.

There is a great thread on SAT “how to” that is stickied in this forum. Actually a couple of them. Read those to get advice on how to improve your weaknesses.
