Should I take my subject tests in May or June?

I’m planning on taking the Math Level 2 and Chemistry subject tests, but I’m not sure if I should do it on May 7 or June 4. I am currently in AP Chem and Precal Honors, and I do have the Barron prep books for both exams.

May 7 is the weekend following 3 AP exams for me (Chem, Physics 1, APUSH), so that week might be so stressful that it could lower my exam score. However, if I take the June test instead and I’m not satisfied with my scores, I’d have to wait until October to retake, which is not ideal (I don’t wanna spend my summer studying for these tests haha).

What’s the best option?

I’m in the same boat as you. I’m taking in May. Tests on May 5, 6, and 7th!!

My D is in the same boat and will be taking them in June. I think it’s just personal preference and there’s no right answer.

I think it makes more sense to take them in May, as you’ll have June if you don’t do well. I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t take at least the chemistry subject test in May, though, since the topics align (to a certain extent, I’m guessing) in both the test and the AP exam. That’s what I’m doing for the biology subject test, and I’m in AP Biology rn.

@photogeek8 That is my reasoning as well.

Since you already have to study for the AP Chem exam why not try to take it in May? You will save yourself quite a bit of studying. My son is taking AP Chem and APUSH and the subject tests on Sat.

If you can handle the stress of all your AP’s and SATs in one week, then May might be better since you can prep for the AP and SAT jointly. I took one SAT subject test in may last year and I personally didn’t handle it very well, so I am taking mine in June this year
