Hey y’all. I’m just worried if i’m not taking enough ap classes this junior year… My current classes are:
AP Lang
AP Calc A/B
AP Chem
APUSH
Drama
Intro to Comp Sci
My school is possible thinking of creating another AP Bio Class because the class are overcrowded and I was wondering if I should take another AP Bio class instead of taking Drama, even though I don’t want to major in Sciences
Also I was just wondering if I should switch out of Intro to Comp Sci to AP Comp Sci Principles since both those classes are pretty basic from what I have heard. (I have no knowledge in Comp Sci whatsoever but maybe I could always ask the teacher for extra help???) If I do, then that’s one more AP credit…
I have NEVER taken any ap classes before so I’m not sure how rigorous all these classes will be… ANY ADVICE??
Going from 0 to 4 AP’s is a large enough leap. You have a rigorous schedule already so leave it alone. The number of AP’s you take is not as important is getting good grades in them.
@Gumbymom OK! thanks! Bu that was one of my main concerns as well… If I were to take at least one more ap class would that leave a good impression on the colleges ?
There is no magic number when it comes to AP classes. As long as your counselor recognizes that you have taken a rigorous HS schedule, you should be fine.
AP Lang, AP Calc A/B, AP Chem, and APUSH are some of the harder (and definitely the more time-intensive) AP classes. I don’t think most people would advise taking all of those together, let alone if you’ve never taken an AP Class before. AP Bio is also time-consuming. I wouldn’t tell anyone to take AP Bio or AP Com. Sci. on top of those classes.
As a matter of fact, I would recommend you do some research about each of the classes you listed first in your original post, and then consider if you even want to do those classes all at the same time. You said that you don’t know how rigorous those classes are. You need to find out, do some research, and think about if you really can handle the challenge. You’re a rising junior, you still have two years/half of your high school career to go. Do some long-term planning. Start with a list of the classes you want to take/have to take, and split them between the two years. I’m not saying it would be impossible or you can’t handle it, but the potential for a breakdown is real. Grades > amount of AP’s
