Hi,
I'm currently a Freshman in High school and did Geometry in 8th grade and I'm getting A's in Honors Fast Math Algebra 2. Should I do Pre-calc over the summer so I can start AP Calc in 10th grade?

You are already two years ahead in math, so (without summer math courses) your math sequence will look like:

9th grade: Algebra 2
10th grade: Precalculus / trigonometry
11th grade: Calculus BC
12th grade: Multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations (at a local college)

By high school graduation, you will have completed all of the required math courses for all majors other than math, although some majors like physics, economics, and statistics have recommended but optional more advanced math courses beyond those.

So the value added of being even more advanced is small, unless you are really into math and want to take college junior level math at a local four year college while you are a senior in high school.

I agree with ucbalumnus for the most part - I don’t know what the hurry is. But I can think of a couple more reasons I might think it’s a good idea. 1) what ucbalumnus said. 2) your school requires that you take a year of Calc AB before you take Calc BC, but even then you would be as far as a high school student reasonably gets. 3) You want to look really impressive for very top-of-the-line math colleges, in which case you might want to consider math competitions or math clubs or the like, as well as more advanced math.

But if you do decide to do pre-calc over the summer, I’d suggest using Aleks.com to do it. <a href=“Online Algebra 2 Class (Summer) - Home Schooling and College - College Confidential Forums”>Online Algebra 2 Class (Summer) - Home Schooling and College - College Confidential Forums; <a href=“ALEKS – Adaptive Learning & Assessment for Math, Chemistry, Statistics & More”>http://www.aleks.com/
