Should I take rec from teacher who loves me or teacher who is in the program I want?

I’m applying to creative writing programs, I have an English teacher already writing me a rec.

For my second rec, I have two options:
-Seminar professor who absolutely loved me and is really nice, will definitely write me a glowing rec. We both love the same topics and we really “clicked” on this level.
-Creative writing professor who gave me one of the 3-4 As in the class, seemed to like me (I really participated in the class), but she’s retiring this year and seems like less of the type to give glowing reviews.

Anybody?

Ask for both! Lots of schools require two but also allow for a 3rd so that cant hurt. Additionally, if one says no you can always fall back on the other

If you already have an english teacher writing your first rec, I would go for your seminar professor (especially if you know she’ll write you a glowing rec!).

@Scou9273 You don’t think it will look weird that I’m applying to creative writing programs and didn’t ask for my creative writing professor to give me a recommendation?

imo having a rec that you know will be fantastic is better than taking a chance with a rec that might be good. Plus, if your English teacher is already writing you a rec and knows you’re applying into creative writing, I’m sure they’ll speak very highly of your capabilities as a writer. If there’s a way to do all three though (as some schools will allow you to submit more than 2 recs) do that!

My English teacher is probably reusing the letter she wrote for my leadership scholarship application, tbh, but she really liked me so it’s probably pretty complimentary.

I guess I’ll ask the seminar professor.
