Hello everyone. How are you all today? Hope you are all well.
Tomorrow, freshmen have to pick their tenth grade courses. I know what I want to take in every subject except for Science. Although I am not bad at Science, it’s always been my weakest subject, especially Biology. However, I love Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy. (Astronomy is my favorite science.) This makes me feel as if I should take Honors Chemistry as in eighth grade, I took a Physics+ Chemistry Honors course, but I’m worried that the Science class I took in eighth grade won’t be enough for Honors Chemistry.
From what I’ve heard from my Biology teacher, she claims that Honors and Regular Chemistry are very similar, and the only difference is that Honors Chemistry has a Science project they have to do, and they use Algebra 2 instead of Algebra 1 for the math component. If this is really true, I would probably take Honors. But I still have problems deciding. Do you guys have any advice for me, or do you feel it is best for me to ask the counselor or the Chemistry teachers?
Not rude or strange at all I would take Honors if I were in your shoes, but talking to your guidance counselor and Chemistry teachers also would be quite beneficial, as they work/teach with it everyday. good luck to you!!!
I like Chem a lot more than Bio because Chem is much more about understanding concepts and mathematical relationships than the memorization involved in Bio. If you have strong math and logic skills, I would go with honors.
Thanks, you guys for the advice! @writer80@Dax123 I will make sure to talk to the counselor and Chem teachers, but I do have strong logic and math skills rather than memorization skills, so I think I will pick Honors. I might not, though.
Hello, I’m a HS freshman in Chem honors. Chemistry itself is a very difficult subject, often known as the most difficult. There is a lot of memorization involved with it (periodic table, diatomic molecules, etc). The math involved in chemistry is fairly simple, mainly it’s to balance equations or find the charge of a certain molecule.
However, I must give out a warning. It isn’t to scare you, but don’t fall behind. Chemistry concepts are built onto each other, and if your foundation is weak, your whole Chemistry knowledge will be too. I’ve been in the situation in the first semester, however I got back on track by studying the concepts that I was weak on over the winter break. Now that I’m back on track, I’m careful to keep strengthening the things I learned before.
