Should I take SAT or SAT subject again?

My last test date before i send in my application is going to be December, and I'm wondering if I should take SAT again or SAT subject. All of the schools I'm thinking of applying to don't require SAT subject, so i'm not sure if I should take it. I took my sat this november, and I haven't gotten the results yet, but I think I got about 1900-2000. I'm aiming for top-tier schools, and so I feel like my SAT score might be too low. I'm thinking of colleges like Emory, John Hopkins, Brandeis, University of Rochester..etc. I only have one test date left, so should I retake my SAT to get a higher score or should I take SAT subject test?

The way you phrased it, it seems like a no brainer to take the SAT again. However, Johns Hopkins “strongly encourages” 2 subject tests (that means they do want them). But honestly, your SAT as it apparently stands now isn’t going to get you in there anyway. My advice is to study up and take the SAT again so your chances improve for your other schools that truly don’t look at subject tests. You have just run out of test dates…

They don’t require subject test, but I think turning my subject scores in will improve my chances of getting in. I’m just wondering if colleges that say they don’t require sat, still, looks at sat subject tests if they’re submitted in, and takes it considerably into account. So many colleges say they don’t require SAT subjects, but so many of my teachers, and colleagues say that taking SAT subject will significantly improve my chances of getting in. So…what’s the truth?

Colleges will accept scores from the january date without a rush report. Take the SAT again in december and the subjects in Jan

My college deadlines are around Jan 1-Jan 20…and the SAT test in January is on the 25th so I have to take my SAT after my college deadline, which is impossible. :frowning: Thanks for the advice though!

As inparent said, as with JHU, if a school says they “encourage” or “strongly encourage” an applicant to submit subject test scores…that means they want them. Since your SAT score isn’t stellar I would take advantage of any opportunity to push the balance in my favor. If you’re getting advice from teachers…why are you still not convinced?

By teachers*, I mean about 2 teachers, and I have gotten conflicting advice. Some say that I should take the SAT and some say I should take the SAT subject. I’m more in favor of taking the SAT again, because I’m scared that some colleges when they say “not needed,” i’m scared that they won’t even take into consideration my SAT subject scores since they are not needed, while almost all schools will look at SAT. What do you guys think…?

upuppppppppppppppppp

I had a similar confusion. I got only a 1890 on my SAT and that is nowhere close to very good. Especially, for the colleges I am applying to, that is a very low score. But, I still decided to write Subject SAT in november and now I will write it in December too, so that I can give my best in the subjects.
Because personally I don’t feel I’ll be able to improve much in SAT I, in such a short time.
So, I’m hoping to show the schools thay I may not be very strong in English, however I’m a good math and science student.

If your colleges don’t want Subject SAT, then it is pointless. But, if they encourage/recommend/consider it at all, then if I were you, I would take the Subject SAT. Also, choose the subjects that are related to your major and ones thay you think you can do well on.
