Hi, I'm a high school junior trying to figure out where I should apply to college. I would like to go to UC San Diego to major in Biology. It says online that "those considering the biological or physical sciences are strongly encouraged to take the SAT Subject Test: Math Level 2 and a science test [...]" I am already planning on taking the Bio and Lit SAT IIs. But math is definitely not one of my strong points, and it would take a lot of work and studying to get a good score on the Math II. I feel like it would be better worth my effort if I study for my other SAT IIs and the SAT I to get high scores and enrich myself as a student in my free time.

For anyone who has applied as a math/engineering/science student at UC San Diego or similar schools, is it really important to take the Math SAT II if it is only recommended and not required? If I had other strong points (really advanced science classes in my case), how much would it lower my chances? Thanks in advance!
