Hi, I am a high school sophomore, looking at classes for next year. I could take a third year of Spanish or an Ap class. Would it look bad to colleges for only taking two years of a foreign language. I am bad a Spanish so it only brings the Gpa down and it is not a class I like. So would this look bad to colleges for only taking two years of foreign language? It is my dream to go to an Ivy league school, but that is probably not going to happen for me.
What are your grades in Spanish? Not taking a 3rd year will make your application uncompetitive for colleges at the Ivy League level.
Two years is a minimum at a lot of schools., and more is often preferred. Three is required at many, especially as you get to more selective/competitive schools. A few look for four. Ivy’s are certainly in the group that prefer four, with at least three. You say Ivies are probably not realistic, so you need to think about what type of school you may be targeting.
Hard to predict as a Sophomore, I know. Given that two is typically a bare minimum at most quality schools, and three is a minimum at some, preferred at most, I think a third year would be beneficial.
