Should I take SPN 611D?

I'm just starting my 3rd year, and just recently switched my major to a BA, which has that extra foreign language requirement. However, I did take Spanish AP in high school, and got a 4 on the AP test, which gives me credit for SPN 601D and 610D, so I could skip ahead to 611D to finish off my foreign language requirement.

I'm currently registered for 611D this semester, but I don't know if I should take it. What scares me is that the last time I took Spanish was in junior year of high school, which is 4 years ago! I probably forgot most of it, and then to jump right into Intermediate Spanish II... it might be a bit much for me. How difficult is the material? I realize that you can get 611D credit from the AP exam that I took, so I probably did cover the material in my AP class in high school, right?

Has anyone taken the Spanish courses offered online through UT Extension? Are they easier? I considered this, but my parents don't want to pay for it when I could get the credit via flatrate tuition during the year.

IF I do decide to drop 611D and take the classes online, do they count towards my hours for the semester? Right now, I'm registered for 17 hours, so if I drop Spanish, it goes down to 11. Does UT Extension count towards that?

Ugh, I'm so stressed. Please help, any advice is greatly appreciated!

You more than likely did cover most of, if not all of, SPN 611D in AP Spanish. However, as you mentioned, you haven’t taken it in 4 years, so you will no doubt be a little rusty. Have you looked through the textbook for 611D? Do you remember any of the material?

Anecdotally, my daughter made a 5 on the AP exam, but wanted to refresh her Spanish before delving into upper division Spanish (she is minoring in Spanish) last semester. She found the material in 611D a review of AP Spanish and found the course pretty easy. Be aware, though, that she loves Spanish.

As for UT Extension online, self-paced courses, they do not count as in-residence hours at UT.
UT Extension can be quite difficult anyway. Have you considered taking SPN 611D through Midland College online during the summer? Apparently, many students do this to get their foreign language requirement out of the way. If that doesn’t appeal to you, then you may just need to try your 611D class for a few days to gauge what you remember. You might be surprised what you recall. If you need help, PM me and I can try and set you up with my daughter–she tutors Spanish students.
