should i take summer school? or am i just freaking out?

i have to take an anthro class, a philosophy class, psych100A, AND psych100B before spring quarter of this year in order to apply into the psych major. should i take summer session C and get rid of my philosophy class and psych 100A just to be sure that i can get into all of my other classes for SURE? it's really important that i get into all these classes, and i'm concerned that other classes might be hard to get into. i've heard psych100A and psych100B fill up really quickly and i don't have priority...

Perhaps email a psych counselor/undergraduate advising-within-that-department so that you can weigh out the pros and cons? http://www.psych.ucla.edu/contact.php

i talked to a psych advisor and she advises that i take psych100A this summer, but i don't think i can afford it. i need to fly back to california, find food/a place to live, AND pay for tuition. i don't know how i'm going to do this but i think it's important

Are you sure you want to graduate in 4 years exactly? I think the percentage of student who do is at least 50%. Just stay another year and relax.

i would relax, but i can't. you have to apply into the major by your spring quarter of your sophomore year.

jlai, what year are you? i'm going to be a sophomore and i'm a psych pre-major as well.
yah, it sucks that they changed the requirements on us... but i guess it's a wiser idea in the end, to make sure everyone has enough time to finish the major.

i still need philosophy and 100A/100B this year. i figure that's one a quarter. you've got that plus anthro, so, one a quarter and two for one quarter, if you do it during the year.

you have two anthro classes to choose from. anthro 12 is offered fall quarter. philosophy 1, 7, 22, and 31 are all offered in fall, so you have 4 to choose from. there are two huge lectures of psych 100A this fall as well.

i say you try to sign up for anthro and philosophy on first pass, and on second pass try to add 100A. THEN drop either anthro or philosophy, depending which has a worse professor or schedule. or, if everything's good and you think you can handle it, keep it.

if, after second pass, you can't get 100A, then taking it in summer seems wise. otherwise you'd have to wait til winter, which pushes 100B to spring and that's not advised.

winter quarter you can take whichever of anthro/philos you haven't done yet. if anthro 7 pops up with manson, take it! easy A ;)

and don't forget you have spring quarter to catch a philosophy/anthro class if needed. i'd just focus on getting 100A/B done, and if it means a summer session, go for it. but see how your fall schedule looks when you're done with second pass.

hope i see you on the other side! :)

yup, i'm a sophomore. we seem to be in the same situation except i still have to take anthro! blah..which anthro class did you take?

i'm eagerly awaiting enrollment so i can seriously FIGURE IT OUT. figure out my life! lol

haha i feel the same way. i just want to get into the major and make SURE it's right for me. i'm... 99%, but there's always that nagging 1%...

i took anthro 7, with manson. it was SO BORING but he puts his lectures online, so i pretended it was tivo and skipped through the slow/repetitive stuff. i copied all the slides by hand into my notebook (even though he printed out partial powerpoint outlines) so that the info went through my head at least once. aced the midterm, aced the final, bombed the hw (too lazy to turn it in) but that didn't matter. easiest A so far ;)
