Should I take the ACT?

I have taken the SAT and got a 2150 superscored (680 CR, 700 M, 770 W) and a 2110 the second time I took the test (640 CR, 700M, 770W). I will be taking the US History, Math 1 (or maybe 2), and Biology E SAT Subject tests.

I was wondering if I should take the ACT as well as another score to show colleges as my GPA isn't fantastic (3.7 weighted out of 4.3 at an EXTREMELY competitive high school).

Thoughts...?

What colleges are you planning on applying to? And your GPA isn’t horrible. Colleges get the GPA of the highest ranked kid in your class, so if it’s not that far off from his/her, then you may be in better shape than you thought after all.

The highest ranking is probably a 4.4 (last year it was almost 4.5) weighted out of 4.3…

I have a LONG list that I definitely need to shorten…

NYU
Rutgers
TCNJ
Fordham
Gettysburg College
Brandeis University
Union College
Binghampton University
American University
George Washington University
Carnegie Mellon University
Connecticut College
University of Maryland, College Park
University of Richmond

…What do you think?

In my opinion take it. I was one of those people who did significantly better on the ACT (35) than on the SAT(2170). Granted what you have is still a good score but why not take it? I know I took it thinking oh what the heck and was incredibly surprised by the outcome

Thank you Ariel. I think I will take a practice ACT and if I do well (I think at least a 30?) I will register to take it in November.

I’ve heard that for some people the ACT was really easy and for others, it was very difficult. How did you find the difficulty level as compared to the SAT?

I found it to be more straightforward than the SAT and that helped me as I had trouble second guessing myself on the SAT. English in particular was easier and although quite a few people have said Science is difficult, it’s really not. Just take a few practice tests and relax because you already have a good score.

Your 1380 SAT (CR + M) is higher than a 30 ACT would be. Wouldn’t hurt to take the ACT.

Take it. It’s a completely different test that many people (myself included) think fits their skill set better. Who knows, you could think the SAT is easier, and get a bad score on the ACT. But the good news is that you have a good SAT to back up on to if you end up not getting what you had hoped to get on the ACT.

Is there a chart of which ACT scores are equivalent to which SAT scores?

Also, Ariel, I forgot to congratulate you on that 35! that’s an amazing score.

Thank you for your advice Csdad, and marinebio444  I’ll let you know how I do on a practice…

Also, have any of you taken the SAT IIs? I’m wondering if I should take math 1 or math 2 and whether I should take us history or world history… Would it be weird if I took three in October and another one or two in November? I don’t want to seem like some kind of overachiever…I just think it’s always good to have more scores to show colleges…

…I’d recommend the Math II’s (doesn’t make it seem you are trying to take an easier level) & whatever corresponds to classes you’ve taken in school.

thank you! :D

I think I will take math 2… Everyone has been telling me that’s a good idea as it is more difficult (which colleges like) and has a more generous curve…
