Okay so I'm a senior, and I really have no knowledge about the ACT, which is kinda sad. But I am thinking about taking it because it seems like everyone I know is. I have been studying for my SATs though, so do I need to study for the ACT? I don't really think much about the test, I just want to try it out. And I don't really plan on submitting my ACT scores unless they are good.
By the way what is a good score? I really don't know.. I know 1800 on the SAT is a good score, but a bare minimum to get into top schools, and a 2200 is an awesome score that most people would be comfortable with.

Okay so I just realized the deadline for the October test passed like 2 days ago… Would taking it in December be too late if I’m applying to UC schools? I know UC schools accept the SAT in December, but I would be a little tight on time. Is it the same for the ACT?

UCs take the December test (both SAT and ACT). You should designate particular UCs as ones to automatically receive scores on application for test to assure it gets there on time (for ACT it may not if you wait to order score sent until after score comes out). If you have a good SAT score, there is no reason to take ACT. Note that for UCs you need SAT or ACT, plus two SAT IIs. As with SAT, what is a good ACT really depends on colleges you are applying to.
