Should I take the AP Physics C Mechanics Exam after taking AP Physics 1?

My school doesn’t offer the AP Physics C courses, but I really want to take them due to interest and for my major in college. I won’t have the time for an online class because at my school all juniors are required to take 6 classes on campus and if I want to maximize my GPA they must be all AP courses. My question is: Does AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C Mechanics have overlapping material so that I can self study for the Physics C exam? I do intend on taking the AP Physics 1 exam also.

Thanks in advance

You can’t. They are not the same course and AP physics C is one of the hardest AP courses.
Also, you really don’t need to take 6 AP classes even if you’re aiming for elite colleges. As Stanford put it " it’s not a game of which has he most AP’s, wins".
Take 4APs, two easy classes, and focus on your main EC. That will be more balanced for your health and life and more useful for college admissions.

Actually, you can. Whether one should is a different question. Assuming one has a calculus background, the gaps between AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C: Mech are not vast and can be filled in with a little self study. Whether this is the best use of time is a different question. However, if the OP is not taking the class I’m a bit confused as to how s/he think this will help “maximize … GPA.”
