Should I take the AP US exam?

Hey everyone! I would really appreciate your advice.
I have to turn in my registration money for AP tests by this Friday. I’m not sure if I am going to take the AP US history exam. My US teacher was new to our school and didn’t have much experience with the new ap test format. She also hadn’t taught history in a couple of years, so I don’t feel very confident about the test material. I have been self-studying a bit to make sure that I’m not too behind in the curriculum.
I was extremely lucky to have fantastic teachers in AP World last year and I earned a 5 on the test. Although I don’t plan on majoring in history or anything related to that, I do plan on applying to some high level schools. Would you recommend that I sign up for the AP US exam and continue self study, or not bother? Does it look bad if I took an AP course and didn’t take the AP test? I’d really appreciate your input and any advice for the APUSH test

Just take it. $90 for the potential of getting your college requirements out of the way is sweet. If you can get a four or five, you won’t have to waste your time and money in a history class in college.
I too had the worst teacher ever last year. Barrons as much as you can, and hope that you get blessed with the questions you know.

If your class appears on your transcript as AP, and you do not show a corresponding AP test, college AO’s may assume that:
• Financial hardship prevented you from taking the exam
• You were not motivated enough to take the exam
• You took the exam and performed poorly (1 or 2)
The first one will not affect your application; the last 2 may raise an eyebrow. AO’s can, and have, contacted GC’s to explain why there are no AP scores reported on the application. So if you have the money, I’d take the exam.

Well, it does not apply to the OP’s case, but there are a valid reasons for not taking the exam. e.g Seniors going to a college that will not give credit for that test. In that case, the $90+ is better spent on other things.
