I’ve taken the current one twice, and my super score is a 2110. It’s obviously a great score but I have a few top-notch schools that I’m looking at (elite liberal arts schools) and while they are reaches, the higher score I can get the better. I forgot to register for the January SAT but I can still register late. On the PSAT I got a 1470 (out of 1520). Should I just take the New SAT? Or should I still take the January SAT but maybe the New SAT once or twice? Or is that overkill? I feel like since I haven’t even started preparing for the January SAT (I didn’t study either time I took it), I should just ditch it and try the new SAT… Ugh standardized testing man xD
Have you takend ACT? Based on your PSAT score, I think you will get a higher score in ACT than in old SAT.
@Fangirl1999 that 1470 is a good indication of how well you’d do on the SAT today. With a few weeks of prep I’m betting you can get it up to a 1550. My advice: new SAT or ACT. Leave the old SAT behind - you’ve already taken it twice and college tend to notice when a student over-focuses on one standardized test in order to boost scores. (Especially as you’d have to send everything in for the superscore). The elite LAC’s are going to be looking very heavily at your essays, rec letter and EC’s so spend your time on those.
It’s ok to take another type of test, however, and if you are NM potential (not sure of your state) you’d be taking the redesigned SAT anyway to advance to finalist standing. The new SAT is distinct enough from the old one that it would probably be considered a completely separate test (check with your colleges to understand better how they view the redesigned test).
You probably realize that there’s not going to be any superscoring the new SAT with the old ones but again that’s something you can verify with your colleges.
Good luck!
O agree with @Mamelot That 1470 would likely put you in contention for National Merit and you will need a confirming score. It bodes well for success on the new SAT. You’ve already taken the old SAT twice and are unlikely to do significantly better a third time. Also if your combined CR and Math is above 1400, you are in good shape!
Congratulations on your excellent PSAT results!
