Should I take the SAT a third time?

I got my October SAT scores today and sadly did not reach my goal - I definitely feel as though I should've done better, but that's besides the point.

I also took it once two years ago in my freshmen year with no preparation:

CR: 750
Math: 760
Writing: 670 (essay 8)
Combined: 2180

This time I got:

CR: 780
Math: 770
Writing: 680 (essay 8)
Combined: 2230

My goal was to get above 2300, and I continually reached this goal in my practice tests, so getting my scores back was pretty depressing. Anyways I was wondering if I should take the SAT a third time to reach my goal. My top colleges are UPenn and Yale (will probably early decision UPenn), and after that would probably be Stanford, Cornell, NYU, Northwestern, UChicago.

My main concern is my writing - but I also know many colleges go by the 1600 scale, which would give me a score of 1550.

Thoughts?

It depends on how the rest of your application looks. If you have a high GPA, competitive classes, and substantial ECs, you should be absolutely fine as they will look at those components after seeing your 2230 score, which I think is about average for accepted students into the Ivies. If not, then maybe 2300+ would be a good thing to have, but a 2230 is nothing to worry about. If you take it again a third time, focus on Writing a lot so you can have a very high superscore.

Most colleges don’t care about writing, so forget about the “2300” thing.
Think in terms of 1600. BRO, you have 1550/1600! That’s really impressive, I wish I can get that high. You can take it again but you really don’t need to. By the way, may I ask why you want to ED to UPenn? That means that if you get accepted to Stanford afterwards, you can’t go.

Thanks @cosmological!! Yeah, I haven’t done anything extraordinary but I’d say my other aspects are pretty up to par - good ECs and leadership, challenging classes, high GPA, and hopefully I’ll be able to write a kickass essay haha

And thanks @undefined123! That definitely makes me feel a lot better - and I want to ED UPenn even though it’s binding because I know for sure I want to do business, so Wharton’s obviously #1; also, I love love love Philly and it’s close as well :)
