I took the SAT for the first time last May and scored a 2000 (730 critical reading, 630 math, 640 writing). That's good enough to get me into the two colleges I'm seriously looking at, but I still haven't decided on whether to take it again and try to raise my score just a little higher. There are test dates in early October and early November, but it's too late to register for the October one and November is cutting it pretty close, since that's around the time I'll be applying to colleges. Opinions?

I've also considered taking the ACT (test date is on Oct.27th) but to be honest I'm a little scared based on what I've heard about it. Math and science are definitely my weakest points and having never taken the ACT before, I don't know what to expect. I'm probably going to end up not taking it, since I feel more comfortable with the SAT anyways.

As to whether you take any more tests, it really depends on colleges to which you intend to apply. Your score is more than high enough for most but on the low side for high ranks. As to whether you can take the tests, for regular admission colleges generally accept through the Dec tests and many accept through the Jan tests.

Take a practice test for the ACT’s. An official one. I took a 3rd party practice test and got a 24, and then took the real ACT’s with minimal prep and got a 35.

The two schools I am seriously looking at are the University of Texas at Austin and the University of North Texas. I’m also considering TCU and SMU but I’m less sure about those two. Can I depend on my SAT score alone?
