I am a rising senior (international student) and I currently got SAT II Physics 760 and SAT II Math IIC 780. I am aiming for Stanford and Brown. As it already this time of the year... I still need to improve my SAT I score in October (right now its 2150, aiming for 2300+), which leaves me with only November to do SAT II's again. However if I understand correctly I can still send Nov scores into Early Action/Decision, but I will not be able to see my scores before I send them?

Hence I was wondering if these SAT II scores are good enough to get into Stanford or Brown if I manage to get 2300+ on the SAT I (keeping in mind I am an international student, Chinese Canadian, so nothing special), or whether I should take the bother to review or take them again and hopefully get 800 on both? Would it seem very desperate if I took the SAT II twice?

Or maybe I should just wait into RD to submit my applications for the good schools...? Will my chances increase or decrease if I do RD instead of EA/ED?

Sorry for the confusing mess of questions... I would appreciate it if somebody can give me some advice!

Those scores are certainly good enough, and will not be dismissed by any admissions officer. However, if you won’t be confident until you have 800s then I would say you should retake them. For Stanford, there is no benefit to doing EA, and for Brown there is less than an 8% advantage for ED. Both of these schools try and hold EA/ED students and RD students to the same standards, so should you end up with those 800s you would be in a better position.

I think you should focus on perfecting SAT I to that 2300+ because that is a greater and more rewarding effort. Your SATii subjects tests are all above 750 so you’re all set there.

The reasoning test is viewed with more weight than the subject tests.

Also, apply SCEA to Stanford if you think you have a decent shot and/or you just want to get an early result. Apply ED to Brown if you reallllly love it there.

Thanks for your reply! Yeah I will certainly work on my SAT I first… And if I decide to do RD on either schools I might take the SAT II’s again in December if I feel like it =.= (although I really really really don’t lol…) Do you have any idea what the last acceptable SAT date for Brown ED? I know Stanford SCEA does not take Nov SATs so if I do that I don’t have a choice anyways…

Thanks for your reply! Yeah I actually am not confident about getting 800s the second time either =.=

When you say for Stanford there is no advantage for EA, would you recommend an “average” (like, not very outstanding but just taking a shot at it) applicant like me to do SCEA (I certainly want an earlier decision)? Or is the pool more competitive and I will actually be disadvantaged?
