Should I take the SAT in January?

I'm a junior in high school and I just took the PSAT and got a 194. My goal is to get at least a 2000 on the SAT, but I'm not sure when I should take it. I was thinking that I should take the January one and while I don't have much time to prepare, I could take a few practice tests and try to bump up my score. I was originally planning on taking the March SAT, but then I was thinking if I don't do as well as I would like, I'll have another chance if I take it in January to improve in March. If I just take it in March, I'll have a lot more time to prepare, but there's a chance I won't do as well. I won't be able to take the May one because I'm using that for subject tests. What do you think I should do? Also, say I do poorly on the January SAT, but then do better on the March one, will this affect my chances at some top-tier schools?

Thank you!

I would recommend taking it in January and then retaking/take subject tests in March. You have a month to go until the date, which is plenty of time to bump up your score. If you got a 194, then that’s a good start. Most schools score choice, so taking it twice won’t affect your chances too much. Especially since it’s winter break, you’ll have time to take some practice tests.

Have you ever taken the SAT in your high school career before?

I’ve taken a few practice ones, but I’ve never officially taken the SAT.
