Should I take the SAT?

<p>Hello, I am a junior in high school. On UMD's website they say they accept both ACT and SAT, but is either one preferred and would it be better if I took both? I've taken the ACT once (27) and plan on taking it again soon but should I take the SAT too? I've wondered this about a few colleges near Washington DC I've looked at. The SAT isn't generally preferred, is it?</p>

<p>I'm from Mississippi (by the way would being from here at all negatively affect my chances of being accepted?) and taking the SAT isn't really encouraged here.</p>

<p>ACT is fine. You can use either at Maryland.</p>
