Should I take the W?

Hey everyone...

I'm at the end of my first year at a CC, and I didn't do too hot on my 2nd midterm in pre-calc. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get an A, it'll more than likely end up being a B. Now so far my transcript has all As, 7 of them so far and I'd like to keep it that way...(3.914 right now, damned A-)

...but will getting one B severely affect my chances at universities like Cal/LA?

Last day to drop with W is Friday, so I'd appreciate some speedy responses if possible.

Thanks.

what’s your major?

Withdraw will look a lot worse than a B imo, considering you’ll be retaking it anyways.

Take the B.

A “W” may not harm your GPA, but it looks bad for grad school. They might interpret the W as you failing the course and you took the W to take the easy way out. A B is more of a guaranteed thing and you also never know what your final grade might be (might curve the course). Also one B really wont harm you that much and any gpa above a 3.8 is pretty secure for Cal/LA (depending on competitiveness of major though).

many people rather take D or F instead of w. you can petition D’s or F’s but w’s are permanent. just try to ace the final for that A

My major is business econ.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I guess I’ll just have to ensure I get an A on the final.

If you get a B, promise yourself it’s the only B you’ll ever receive in your CC career, ha ha…

A W is for sure better than a D or F… Btw if you’re having a hard time with precalc, u better up ur game for calc.

if you can’t imagine yourself getting an A in that class and still want a good shot at LA’s Business Econ, I would drop the class.

for Fall 2010, the average gpa of ‘Business Economics’ admits: 3.94
the average gpa for ‘Economics’ admits: 3.95

drop it mosdef if u wanna get into those colleges

A>B>W>C>D>F

Take the B.

Having a 4.0 does not in any way guarantee you admission into UCLA’s Econ Department.

Average means 50 had less than the 3.94, so you CAN get in with a lower GPA.

You will have to have a lot more than just a high GPA for bizecon

lol, there’s nothing wrong with a B

Take the W. Get into UCLA. Do well at UCLA. Worry about the W in the future.
