Should I talk to the Admissions Office?

I want to apply to McCombs this fall and was wondering if my top 4~5% ranking at my HS would make me automatically admitted. However, on the site it says that this is not necessarily true although automatic admission to the university is guaranteed.

So I was wondering, could I do an early decision for McCombs just merely sending in a TexasApply... and then if I get rejected, can I apply again, regular decision, with resume, essays, etc attached?

Also, where would be the best place for me to ask for answers?

If you are in state, your class rank will get you into the University, but not necessarily into McCombs. UT does not have early admission. I would go on the UT website and read everything there is under “Prospective Students” That will probably answer alot of your questions. I am pretty sure you only get to apply once. If you want McCombs, put them as your first choice of major (you get to put two choices). As far as your odds, it probably depends on the year. I know someone who was top 3% and did not get into McCombs (not this year). If you want to call someone, call the admissions office first, they may refer you to someone at McCombs for specific business questions. Good luck!

I say you apply early. I know somebody who was accepted into McCombs despite having an average SAT, but their rank was also high (top 3-4% like you).

So does it give you an advantage for getting into Mccombs if you have written essays vs if you haven’t?

You should write your essays! If you were 1%, you would be an auto admit into McCombs, since you are not, it will depend on the applicant pool you are up against. If they fill the 75% before they get to 4%, then the other 25% is filled “holistically” which means your essays will have an impact on your acceptance, as will your test scores, your ecs, your strength of schedule, etc.

Definitely write the essays and send in an amazing application! As ag54 said, unless you are the top 1% from your high school, you are not an auto-admit to McCombs. I do know 5%ers that did not get in from high school. You can always attempt to transfer in once you are enrolled in the university and have the requirements completed.
