Should I Transfer b/c of money

Recently I've been toying with the idea of transfering from Northeastern University in Boston to UT for financial reasons.
I love Northeastern, I've made the Deans List and Collegiate Honors society there, and I really love the co-op program they offer. But the idea of graduating with $85,000 in loans (after small scholarships and what not) can't seem to stop bothering me, when i could go to UT Austin at no cost (because of the Texas Tomorrow Fund).....Also Northeastern doesn't offer any additional scholarships that aren't need-based.

Even though I love Northeastern, I dont know whether it's worth it to stay there or not.

What does everyone think? Would you transfer?

UT Austin is a very well respected school - i don’t see why not! I would transfer, since it probably has a better reputation than Northeastern (assuming). Plus I assume you are a Texan? So you will have family near you. $85,000 vs no debt is pretty good reason to go to UT Austin.

Have you spoke with financial aid? typically they will reward you with more merit aid if you have a stellar GPA which i am assuming you have.

Obviously.

Accumulating so much debt for undergrad is stupid. I wouldn’t pay that much for Harvard

id def pay that for harvard… im paying that for usc even(im an intl, dont get finaid…) but dude, you should DEF transfer to UT!

UT is more well respected anyway, and debt free, totally worth it  + probably a lot more fun… :)

whats your major though ?

Northeastern is not worth close to $85K in debt. (Neither is an Ivy for that matter.) I don’t understand how you are even considering this. Use a loan calculator to determine the total cost of your loan. Even with an amazing interest rate, you will likely end up paying about $120K over the course of your loan.

And come on, it’s not like you’re deciding between Yale and community college. It’s the University of Texas flagship campus, which in the eyes of most is more prestigious than Northeastern.

Yes you should transfer.

You went to Northeastern over UT? ■■■■. Transfer ASAP!

Get ur self in Texas, I think UT has a lot more merits than Northeastern.

yup, UT > northeastern… only good thing about northeastern is that ppl will sometimes think youre saying northwestern and be like, ‘alright, good for you!’ :p

That is a lot of money for debt. Both schools are great but its really up to you. Northeastern and UT both have its perks. In the long run i bet NEU will be ranked over UT someday without a doubt.

I was in a similar situation this year. I went to UVa (OOS) my first year, but decided to transfer to Rutgers (in-state) because the idea of having ~60K in loans just after undergrad really bothered me. I’d say that if you know you’d still be happy at UT, then do it! In my opinion, not many schools are worth thousands in dollars in loans, unless you have no alternative.

Transfer - YES absolutely!!! Having such a huge debt for NEU is not fiscally sound, especially if your other choice is UT - a fine school…use the money for grad school, or simply save yourself a lifetime of paying back such HUGE DEBT!!!
