Hi, I am currently a freshman HBHS major in Human Ecology and intend on going to medical school in the future. My question is should I transfer internally to CAS if I want to go to a top medical school. I know they say it doesn't matter which college you attend at Cornell; however, the BA just looks as if it would be more appealing on an application and CAS is much more well renowned. Most pre-meds are also in CAS or CALS. I am out of state so there is no money difference. Is transferring advisable, and how difficult would if be to transfer to a Bio major considering I have a good gpa and already take 75% of my classes at CAS anyway?

It really doesn’t matter. HBHS provides a more well-rounded education than a pure bio major. Either way is fine.

I was wondering the same. I know you guys have proven this rumor false, but a lot of people still think that the statutory schools at Cornell aren’t Ivy league. I honestly have to defend my school often. Do medical schools fall into this group?

Medical schools won’t care.

The people who say that are just ****ed that they don’t get cheaper tuition. I’d just stick to where you’re at-- if anything, if you are really itching to transfer, go to CALS. Every pre-med I know is in either HumEc or CALS, probably because they offer a more rounded education and have great research/intern opportunities.

Yeah I think I’m going to just stay where I’m at. I like the smaller feel of HumEc and the education does seem more well rounded. That’s why I applied there in the first place. Cornell is Cornell regardless of the college. I’m in the same science classes as almost all the pre-meds anyway.

Definitely stay in HumEc … medical schools won’t care at all! Plus HBHS gives you a bit more well-roundedness than a typical bio major in CAS.
