Should I transfer in the spring or fall?

I will be finished with my AA after the upcoming fall semester at the community college I’m attending. I’ve yet to apply to schools, but I know that I want to transfer. I could transfer in the following spring, or wait until next fall. I’m only skeptical because spring seems sort of soon, but next fall just seems so far away. I’m not sure if waiting until next fall would put me behind but it would give me a chance to save up some money before I leave. If you have any experience or advice to give, please help me make a smart decision.

If you’re from a CCC, then you’ll have to transfer in the fall, none of the schools, well with the exception of maybe one or two, accept transfer applications for the spring. You’ll have a wider range of schools to choose from if you transfer in the fall.

@sekime that is not true at all. There are plenty of schools that offer spring transfer admission. The applicant pool is smaller and probably weaker, but there are also fewer spots open. Transferring in the fall will probably be easier to get adjusted since there will be more transfer students and transfer orientation.

It is probably best to transfer in the Fall. Transferring in the spring isn’t too bad either but if I were you I would transfer in the fall.

Thank you all so much for replying. Do you think it would put me behind at all if I wait to transfer next fall?

not at all. It is only one semester and in the long run, it won’t matter. If you spend that time wisely, you can definitely do a lot of cool stuff. Internships, make money, read, travel, etc.

Some kids take a gap year between high school and university. From what I have heard it usually works out very well, with students coming back after a year off ready to study. I took two years off between undergrad and graduate school. I found that I was much better student after the time off, and was able to get back into the swing of classes and homework quickly.

You will only have one semester off, plus the summer. I don’t see any problem with this.

Awesome. Thank you all so much. Your answers have been so helpful. I think I’ll be transferring next fall and saving up before I leave
