Should I transfer my high school?

I am an international student, and I go to a high school in US. My school is an all girl private Catholic school. People say that its the best all girl school in the state. But I feel the education here is not that good. First of all, they only offer 9 APs. And I know that I can only take 6 of them. Also, I felt that their students are not competitive at all. As I mentioned, I am an international student and this is my first year here. But I rank the best in my regular English class. That's not normal at all. I know how my English is. However, I still like this school. The teachers are nice and helpful. And I have made some good friends.
I get a chance to transfer to a bigger school. Some people say these two schools are about the same, while others say this one is more academic. In this school, they have both IB and AP program. Their campus is huge and they have they are famous for their theatre program( I like drama.) Also, there are more successful people who have graduated from this school.
I am really confused if I should go or not. I really want to go to a good college. People say that the colleges won't look at how good is your high school. If I stay in where I am now, I will be doing well. I can rank the top, get 4.0-4.2 GPA( Again, we don't have that much APs), hopefully become the leader of the math team.
I really want to go to good college, and I work really hard for it. I am really really confused now. Should I go, or not. Please give me some advise.

someone please helps. I have to make the decision by this week. :frowning: I feel so confused and worried.

Long story short: stay where you are! You seem happy, you said you have made friends, and you seem to be doing well (academically and other) at your current school. Colleges and Universities will probably not look at the “ranking” of your secondary school, unless it is top-notch or at the extreme lower-end.

Out of curiosity, where are you planning to apply? Don’t stress too much over AP classes. 6 is plenty, believe me. Focus on doing well in the ones that you choose to take, and be sure that you at least slightly enjoy the classes you sign up for. The sooner you figure out what you want to do down the road (career wise), the sooner you’ll have an idea of where you want to go to college.

Don’t stress yourself out over college, especially not at this point. You have plenty of time to decide. You are probably at a slight advantage being an international student and competing at such a high level (colleges/universities love to see that, especially since you’ll bring diversity and a unique perspective to campus). Don’t plan on going to an Ivy League institution just for the sake of being an “Ivy Leaguer.” I can’t tell from your post exactly where you’re planning on going, but it sounds like you won’t have any trouble getting in to a lot of great schools.

Maybe I could help even more if I knew what you wanted to study and/or where you were planning on applying?

Hope this helps! STAY PUT!! :)

Thank you so much for your reply! It helps me a lot. I knew it will be a safer choice to stay. I am still kind of attracted by their beautiful campus and theatre program. Also because they have boys, LOL.
I am interested in business or theatre. I am looking at Duke University, Northwestern University or the business school of NYU. I know the colleges are getting more competitive and require more from the candidates. I have seen a lot of students with 12 AP classes and get a 4.5 GPA. Despite some experience of acting, I don’t really have a super shinning spot to impress the colleges. Do you think those colleges are possible for me?
My academics is fair. I have the leading percentages in nearly my every class. And also I have taken Chemistry and Physics in middle school in my home country. I got the permission to go straight to a higher science class( we don’t have a lot of science APs.) I will be taking Junior and Senior classes next year. As well as my math class, I am in Alg II( H) as a Freshman. Will this be an advantage for colleges? And will that be better to take IB?
I am sorry:( I mass to many questions.

Without knowing more, it’s tough to say whether or not those schools are a match for you. Are you only a freshman? If so, just keep working hard and OF COURSE those schools are within reach. I am applying to NYU Stern as a transfer student

Focus on keeping your grades up and participating in some unique extracurricular activities. Depth over breadth: focus on a few solid ones and exploit them rather than doing a little bit of community service at 50 places.

It will also help for chancing once you take SATs. Take AP Calculus if its offered! BC if you can! :)

Keep up the great work and don’t worry about it too much! :)

I am Freshman:) My school offers AP Cal but not BC. My teacher says I might go to a nearby college for a higher class in my senior year if it can fit into my schedule.

And do you know if IB could help me a lot on my college applications?

Your advise is really really helpful! Thank you so much! Good luck on your application to NYU!
