Should I transfer, or wait until my Masters?

So, I’m currently in my third year of undergrad, and just feel like I haven’t been able to hit my niche at my current school. I’m in-state, and I came to my current school because of cost and program reputation (for being in-state). I’m not so sure I want to continue being at this school and am debating if I should transfer, but I’m not so sure that its possible for so late in undergrad. I had been debating transferring earlier, but I convinced myself that its not worth it (for credit and financial reasons). I’ve been pretty hesitant to tell my parents about this, for financial reasons and such, especially given that I am thinking about going straight to a Masters in C.S. after graduating. Should I stick it out or seriously consider transferring?

Colleges require that you complete the final 3 or 4 semesters at that school so you are talking about an extra semester or year in college if you transfer. That is a waste of time and money. What is your GPA?

Stay where you are. Undergrad will be over in the blink of an eye (really you only have three semesters left). Soon you will have made the prudent financial choice and can focus on to a graduate school that will be a better match for you. In the long run you will be very happy with your decision.

Can you do a semester/year abroad or in a domestic exchange to another part of the US? That would put you in a different environment for a bit.

In most cases, you would ned more than just two semesters once you transfer, so that will be extra costs for you and your family. If your current university is affordable, and has good career and grad school placement for your major, you probably are better off just sticking it out for now. If/when you do go to grad school, you certainly can apply to places that are more interesting for you!

If you need to transfer, then transfer. I made the mistake of waiting too long to transfer. Now I’m a senior with one semester left, and I’m transferring. My situation is also unique due to wanting to live in Europe, which is where I’m transferring to, and not the U.S., but the basic argument is the same. If something isn’t right for you, don’t let people convince you into being complacent. Take action, move, transfer!

But there are many factors to consider. I don’t know you’re entire situation. Best of luck!
