Just curious to see other peoples opinion on the matter. I currently go to SDSU as a International Security and Conflict Resolutions (ISCOR) major. I applied to a few UC's and was accepted into UCSB, UCD, and UCI. I was wondering if I should transfer out since UC's are considered significantly better institutions. I really like ISCOR but I'm afraid I will pigeonhole myself with such a specific major so I was also debating on transferring as a Political Science or International Relations major. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Wow… not to bash you or anything… Do you know how hard it is to get into SDSU and you want to leave lol?? Anyways, why do you want to transfer??

Not really feeling the environment, has a significantly lower ranking than the UC’s, and concerned that my major would limit me in getting into a good graduate program. The environment is like this… you have a bunch of high schools and community colleges that feed into SDSU so you have a huge population of underachieving students that barely scrape by but are guaranteed admissions. This isn’t everyone but a sizeable population where its noticeable. I’m an older student so the social life doesn’t concern me as much as the quality of education.

If you aren’t happy with the academic culture at SDSU, and you can afford the UC of your choice, go for it! The three that accepted you are roughly academic peers, so it’s fine to choose based on convenience or cost. UCSB has a little more of a party reputation, so UCI or UCD might be better choices for the atmosphere you seek.

Oh ok. Have u looked at UCSD? They’re more mature over there and seem to lean more towards academics then social life.

Yeah I didn’t get in to UCSD.

Oh, sorry to hear that! I think you’d like UCI, are you looking at location also as a reason to transfer? Or just the school?

Really just looking at the school and quality of the education. Whatever has the best Political Science program.

I think a while back UCD had the best political science program and UCI came right after that.
