should i transfer out of UCR??

Im a freshman majoring in computer science major.. but I don't know if I should transfer out or not. I like the campus, people, and the environment, but it doesn't seem like UCR computer science and engineering department is widely known. I also think that i'm not a good fit for UC school because I don't think im going to a grad school and learn something theoretically. I rather learn by doing practically...So I'm thinking about transferring to Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, or San Jose State for computer science major.. but If i'm transferring to those cal state school, I might have to go to CC and then transfer since most units from UCs won't transfer to CSUs.
What do you guys think of UCR computer science major? do you think I can have job employment opportunity from majoring in computer science major from UCR??? or is it better for me to transfer??

From what I know, it doesn’t matter where you get a degree in Comp Sci from, but being at a higher ranked school always looks good. UCR is a good school too (I almost went there, still have the sweater) I wouldn’t transfer out of there unless of SLO. As for theoretical vs. applied, I again, don’t think it matters much and a more theoretical approach will still look better to employers.

yeah stay at a UC over a CSU, it just looks better.

This whole practical CSU vs theoretical UC is going way too far. If “theory” is that intimidating you should be doing an engineering technology degree.

but wouldn’t it be better to go to a school with a better computer science program in order to get more job employment opportunities in the future like in San Jose State?

^ If employers care about rank at all (which I doubt they do), they’ll see that UCR is ranked way higher than the unranked SJS. It sounds like you’ve already made your mind up to transfer though, and want us to validate your decision.

I havent made my decision yet. I’m still thinking about it right now. If it doesnt matter where I get my degree from… then how would you explain this?

You’re looking at a 39% for Computer Science majors with the first link who think it’s important.

As I said, for engineering majors, the majority of the time, it does not matter where you get your degree from. If it’s something as run of the mill like English or History, you’re better off getting it from a school that carries prestige behind it.

if you look at the second link and third link, those links kind of made me consider going to state schools
