I am currently an Environmental Science major with a concentration in Biology. I originally wanted to major in Ecology or Wildlife Biology, but because of funding, I came to a liberal arts school that only offers the standard science tracks and Environmental Science. I really loved the EVS major while researching it, but I was researching it based off of science schools that have a lot of specialization within their EVS programs (such as Clemson University). However, the school that I am at is not like that. We only have 4 actual EVS classes and the rest are from other disciplines. This wouldn't really be a problem, except the other required courses are things like government, anthropology, and other liberal arts courses. I feel like I need a background in things like chemistry, physics, calculus, genetics, etc. but these just aren't required for my degree and I don't have a lot of time to take them on the side. I was thinking about transferring to a school that has more options in terms of science classes and has a stronger science program. I know it's ok to get a general degree as an undergrad and then I can specialize later, but I feel like I need a strong background in science, not liberal arts. I considered switching my major to Biology, but my school only has two Bio tracks: pre-med and teaching. I'm not interested in either of those. I really enjoy my major, but I want more options. What would be the best thing for me? Should I just stick it out here, or should I transfer to a school with a more scientific approach to EVS? Thanks in advance!
