I ended my freshman year with a 2.86 GPA. With this GPA I have no chance of getting into medical school. So I am wondering if I should transfer to a different University to get a new GPA

You won’t get a new GPA. Graduate/medical schools will see grades from both colleges. Instead of avoiding the problem by transferring, you need to figure out why you are getting low grades and fix the problem.

Wouldn’t I use my GPA from the school I am graduating from to apply for medical school, and if so, shouldn’t that increase my chances ( I know they will still see all my grades, but my GPA would be higher in the recent college)

What the hell? 2.86 doesn’t mean you aren’t cut out for college.

But yes, you don’t get a new GPA. Some schools will factor in your old one and grad schools will most certainly see both GPAs. You don’t get to start over.

I bumped from 70% to 80% in one semester, you can do it too, just choose your classes wisely

I understand why you wouldn’t be thrilled with your grades but your definately not excluded from medical school. It is still your freshmen year and base off how you do this fall you can bring your GPA up ( past 3.5). Especially if you take a decent course load of summer classes by the time you graduate. Also if possible, see if there are any classes you are willing to retake.

Try to take a better course load next semester. Like everyone else said, you won’t get a new GPA, but your old one won’t carry over. For med school they’ll average the two together. It’s only your freshman year, chill out and do better next time.

If you transfer schools and were not on financial aid at the first school, then the second school has absolutely no idea that you ever went anywhere. On your application just dont put the original school.

This can not be done if you had financial aid at school 1 as the financial aid office of your new school will catch you.

I was not on financial aid and i did this… it worked.

BTW your absolutely right your GPA would keep you out of Med School except if you wanted to go to some Caribbean or OD school.
