Hey everyone, I have a big problem here and any help or feedback would greatly be appreciated.

I had a good experience in high school. Lots of friends and fun memories. In September I moved into college. The school is about a little over an hour from my home. I guess to put it simply I dont like it too much. I havent exactly met too many people, but that doesnt bother me all that much because I do enjoy my alone time. I have a girlfriend as well. I think of myself as an insomniac. Its very hard for me to fall asleep and stay asleep. I try to go home as often as I can. I still have alot of friends in high school and ones that didnt go to college. Whenever I am on my way home I get this feeling of happiness to see my family and friends again. When I am home, I am very very happy. When I am on my way back to school though at the end of the weekend I do get very upset.

So because of these reasons I thought of commuting to a different school. I just do not feel happy away at school. There is a school about 15-20 minutes from where I live. My mom works there so money would not be a problem. My parents said they would even buy me a new car if I decided to commute. But I am torn on what I should do. What if I do actually get sick of being home? Or what if I dont meet new people? This problem has been in my head for weeks and its tough to think with these ideas in my head.

The simple truth is that nationwide, more students live at home and commute than go “away” to college. It really, truly, is OK to do that.

If you don’t like your current university, and the one closer to home offers the major(s) you are interested in, there is nothing whatsoever wrong with transferring there.

^I second that. In addition, since your mom works there, it’s probably free tuition, so the money you save by living at home and not paying at the other school could be set aside so that, if need be, you could live in an apt off campus near the other school during your junior year, when you may get tired of living at home. :)

While I’m no doctor, this makes me wonder since it sounds like this has paralyzed you. Surfing on the web where all the best medical research can be found

Maybe its worth having a chat with a counselor at your school’s health services just to make sure there is nothing else going on.
