Should I transfer to Cornell from Washington University in St. Louis?

I have been offered a guaranteed transfer for sophomore year to Cornell. I would be transferring to the CALS school and have pretty much completed the transfer application. However, I would have to take a summer bio class to fulfill transfer requirements in order to matriculate at Cornell.
My parents want me to do it because to them Cornell is more prestigious,$15,000 cheaper than WashU since I’m a NY state resident (67,000 vs 50,000) and is closer to home.
I understand that Cornell will be cheaper but I’ve made friends at WashU and have acclimated to the lifestyle here.

What your opinions on this matter? Should I transfer?

If you were going to do that, wasn’t that transfer paperwork due to Cornell on March 15?

If your parents understand that and are willing to pay for WUSTL, then you should stay.
If your parents don’t care and/or really need to save the $51,000 that you are asking them to pay, then you should transfer and make new friends.

Forget the prestige thing, I don’t think Cornell is any more prestigious than WUSTL. I would give that zero weight compared to the fact that you’ve settled into your college life.

What’s the reason that YOU want to transfer?

Tough call. But if you love WUSL and can afford it, then stay. But if you transfer, you will most likely make good friends. Good luck!

@8bagels Yea, I sent in the application already

@8bagels But I don’t have to decide until June.

My kid is in the same position–happy at her current school but tempted to take the transfer option since Cornell was her first choice. She will probably do it even though she is happy where she is. We left it up to her. If you are the kind of kid who makes friends fairly easily don’t worry about that, but if you have a hard time adjusting to new situations, I would think twice.
