So I have by tomorrow to decide because I have to send everything in before I leave for Australia on Monday for the summer...

I currently attend Barnard and hated it first semester. I now have met a group of friends, but still do not like the idea of graduating from a womens college. I know I want to go into business, would I be taking a step down by transferring to Stern? I love downtown and NYU, I just don't want to mess it up and try and fix something that's not broken.

Additionally, most of my friends are rising seniors, so I don't really want to make my decision based on a group of people who will leave me up in Harlem by myself after next year anyways ;)

Also, is it harder to get into prestigious MBA programs coming from undergraduate business schools?

I have alot to think about...any input on Barnard or Stern would be great!

I think you should apply. Think about it this way- by applying you are not enrolling. You are giving yourself the opportunity to enroll. You dont want to regret not applying down the road. I cant give you any advise on which is a better school, but do know that you might regret not applying.
Also, remember that college is not just about academics but about the whole experience. Social concerns are important. But ultimately, you should want to transfer if your life will be improved by the switch.

People transfer schools for a variety of reasons but when it comes down to it, all the reasons simplify to one statement- my goals cannot be achieved at my current school. You need to spend sometime thinking and figure out what are your goals (both social and academic). If they are being met at your current school then why transfer. But if not, then you should transfer.

On another note- I have a few friends at Stern and they love it. But Stern is not for everyone. It is very competitive with some cut throat kids.

I know my goals can be met at both schools. I am certain I want to do business, Stern is a more direct path. I just hope I’m not going down a level from Barnard…

I think I’ll like Stern, so it’s a matter if I should take the risk or not.
