I was accepted to the University of Florida for 2014 Summer B as a freshman and decided to go to the University of Tampa instead. I am currently a freshman and an international business (finance) major. I am unsure of whether or not I should transfer to UF. I felt that U. Tampa would be better for me as a freshman because it is less overwhelming. However, I'm worried that graduating with a degree from the University of Tampa will look less impressive as UF. The Sykes College of business is a good school, but is Warrington better? Would I be more attractive to future employers (I plan on staying in FL) if I graduated from Warrington instead? I know UF has a better alumni base. I just want to get the best possible education. Also, how hard is it to transfer to UF? I know I can't do it until I am a junior, would it be worth it at that point? Thanks for any input!

Warrington is a well known, well ranked business school. I have a friend that’s in it, and she loves it. I would definitely say that Warrington is more impressive than the Sykes College of Business. UF as a whole is also better respected than the University of Tampa. It would still be worth it because your diploma would only say UF on it, so it wouldn’t matter.

The only way I would transfer is if you could prove that UF offers you more opportunities than University of Tampa when it comes to your major. I don’t think it would be a waste to transfer your junior year, seeing as you haven’t really taken any of your major specific classes.

How would I go about transferring to UF?

Here is a link that will show you the criteria you need to transfer in to the Finance program under Heavener. <a href=“Admissions | Undergraduate Academics | UF Warrington”>Admissions | Undergraduate Academics | UF Warrington;

The website should list that you need:
- Completed or close to completing 60 credits hours or obtaining your A.A/A.S.
- 7 required Prereqs (Their GPA needs to add up to at MINIMUM of a 3.5)
- 3.0 GPA at MINIMUM (If you’re striving for Finance it will need to be around a 3.5 or above)
- UF’s language requirement (2 semesters in College or send your transcripts from HS showing 2 years worth in HS)

Only take general education credits and the prereqs, other higher level courses can/will count against you.

Any major under Warrington/Heavener is competitive to get in to as a transfer. You need to strive and keep at least a 3.5/3.5 GPA to be considered as a transfer.
