Should I transfer? What do you think?

I’m currently a freshman at the University of Kansas. It’s great here, but I’m out of state and I don’t know if I can live so far out of state for four years. I have yet to choose my major and I’m really struggling on a decision (at first it was astronomy, but I don’t think I can go all the way to Phd for such little money) I write and am writing a novel and I have an idea to start a book publishing company after school. I like it here, but I was not a good student in high school, and I moved from TX to DC and some of my credits didn’t transfer so I didn’t apply to any schools for fall because I didn’t think I was going to graduate on time. I did. KU was the only school I applied to. Again, it’s a great school but it’s really random…I’d want to see if I could go to a more prestigious school with a lower acceptance rate. A school in DC or TX. If I were to get into one, what scares me is the transferring of credits. I’m so fucking sick of playing catchup and doing it in high school put me through hell. Those of you who can give me advice and tell me the honest truth…what do you think? Is it worth the annoyances of transferring or should I just take what I have?

You don’t have to choose a major in the first month of college. If you weren’t a good student in high school, why are you thinking you should have gone to a more prestigious school with a lower acceptance rate? You must have chosen Kansas for a reason. I think you should stay where you are and see how happy you are by the end of the semester.
