hi, i'm currently an international freshman student in U of Miami
i wanna transfer to some better business school because i feel like UM's curriculum is not challenging enough and the social scene is so not my type.... i'm not a huge sports fan
and also, i'm not on scholarship in UM, so actually it's a huge burden for me and my family

Some background stats:
- Current College: University of Miami
- Undeclared Business
- College GPA: 3.89
- High School GPA: 3.35 (it's a competitive private high school in Hong Kong, rank 18/75)
- SAT: combined 1580 - I know it's horrible, i've only took it once, i plan to take SAT again when i have time later on :/
(btw, I didn't submit my SAT for UM because it's not required for international students)
-TOEFL:102/120
- Model United Nations HK best delegate
- I have an interest in International Relations and languages, plan to double major in junior year

i'm thinking of transferring to Emory, UMich, Texas-Austin, WUSTL, UNC, Georgetown and William and Mary

which would be the best fit for me?

or should i just hurry to finish college in UM in 3 years (to save money/but i have to give up the thought to double major), then go to a brand name school for the MBA course?

Is your SAT 1580 on the Reading and Math only (1600 scale), or is it on all three combined (2400 scale)?
If it is 1580/1600, I fail to see how that’s anything short of extremely good. If you feel like you need to transfer, you can with that score and your college GPA.

If it is 1580/2400, you have a problem for the schools you’re trying to apply to. Some competitive schools, though I’m not sure if the ones you want to transfer to see it this way, don’t like you taking the SAT after you enter college, as the SAT is a measurement of how well you will do in college. There’s no point in taking a predictor test when there’s nothing to predict anymore.
Look it up and ask around. If this is the case with your schools, I suggest you wait until the spring of your sophomore year and apply as a junior transfer. If you will have about 60 credit hours by the time you transfer(or the equivalent of 2 years worth of classes), then they won’t pay as much attention to your high school record (some schools don’t even require it if you complete the two years).

Alternatively, you can stick with UM, as it is a great school, and then do your MBA somewhere more competitive. Remember that Miami is a great city for business and you’ll find internships readily available, which would greatly help your application.

sorry to tell you my score is on the 2400 scale…
ummm i slacked off in high school during g9-11…
i took SAT basically in the beginning of g12 (i didn’t even study for it lol) while everyone else took theirs in g11 already
but when i went to college, i realized i really need some change, so i worked hard :)

Like greennblue said, there’s less financial aid for transfers. Unless you’re getting none at Miami and can get some at another school, your best bet is probably to stay where you’re at. Besides, Miami is a great school located in a fantastic place.

I am a student at UM’s business school as well! And I get what you’re saying about the social scene and the academic standards.

I’ve applied to NYU Stern, and I’ve heard their finaid is bad, although I dont require any. If you want a similar university in an urban environment to NYU, try Boston University. It’s very easy to get into as well, I’ve heard. Around 50% acceptance rate for transfers.
