I am currently in a liberal arts school. I think the school is great because it has excellent faculty, academics and care for the welfare of students. However, I recently think about transferring because I decide I want to go into films and theater but the school does not have a film major and not in an area near film or theater industry. Secondly, the school I am in now makes me socially uncomfortable because of racial tension (I am an Asian student from abroad). I discuss this issue with my family, they tell me that it’s a liberal arts so I can go to a film graduate school afterward. Since the school is small, I will have more opportunities to get positions or roles in theatrical productions. As for my social life, they say that I am going to feel uneasy anywhere I go in the states, so I should learn to live with it now. I definitely take their opinions into account and I am curious about what other’s opinions are. Thank you.
There are quite a few schools where there are a lot of Asians, including international students, especially the West Coast–CA in particular. The big issue is whether your family can afford for you to switch and whether you can convince them that the switch would be a good one. USCal does have a lot of international students in their cinema school, many of whom are pursing graduate degrees in cinema, having obtained their undergrad degrees elsewhere in other fields. That is the school both my kids attended, so the one I’m most familiar with. They do have a highly-regarded cinema program.
