Hello! I just started college for my first year in a CUNY school and right now I am thinking about trasferring to a SUNY. The reason I want to transfer is because I noticed that the CUNY I am in does not provide the major I want to study, but instead has it as a minor. I also want to minor in arts, which my current school also doesn’t provide as a minor. Right now I am leaning towards transferring to this SUNY that I have been admitted before that has the major and minor I want. However, what’s holding me back in the dorming fee. Since I am poor, I believe the tuition fee is already covered, however, I would still have to pay for dorming if I decide to go to a SUNY. I have not yet asked my parents about this, and I am in need of some advice.
This is only the second week of school and i know I should give my college some time, but I don’t want to waste my time if I am not going to study what I want. What should I do? And how long should I wait to consider this action?
To be more exact, I want to major in linguistics and considering on minoring in arts. I am currently majoring in Romance languages in hunter, which is somewhat related to what I want to do
Look at the exact courses required for the major and minor in linguistics at the two different places. Read the course descriptions, and check the syllabus for each class if you can find it online? Just exactly how different is the major vs. a major lin languages with a full minor?
Have you applied for admission to the SUNY? Did you complete the financial aid application? Did you indicate that you would need to live on campus? What does the aid package include?
