Right now I'm finishing up my first year at UCSC as a Business Management Economics major, not sure if I want to try to transfer after my second year. With my grades, I can probably get into UCD or UCI, maybe UCSD. Also, I'm going to try to apply to law school after I graduate. So my question is, what are your opinions? Should I transfer out of UCSC? Is it worth it? Do grad schools place much emphasis on where you got your undergrad degree, or will high LSAT/GPA be enough?

Go where you think you can be successful. For example, if you think you can do exceptionally well in UCD then go there. On the other hand if you think that you'll only do well in SC then stay there. You should also think about how prestigous the business school at ucsc is. Most companies that higher econ majors care about the undergrad school. So find a place where you can do well and that is prestigous. It might be worthwhile to go to UCD and UCI and SD to check out there business schools.

If you're doing law school, I don't think it'll matter. If you're not happy/are pretty sure you'd be happier at another school, then transferring is probably a good idea. As far as just looking better, it's not worth it

High GPA and High LSAT scores are the most important, hands down. Stay wherever you can get the highest GPA and study hard for the LSAT. You should check out Top Law Schools. The message board there is really informative.
