Currently I am a student at Wesleyan Univeristy in CT and am considering transferring to McGill University. I am pursuing a double major in international relations and economics. However I am very worried about the stigma associated with Canadian Universities--namely that they are not as prestigious as American Universities and can hinder future job opportunities. Can anyone please offer some advice? Is it better for me in the long run to stay at Wesleyan? Is McGill on par with Wesleyan?

hmm...is Wesleyan Univeristy the all girls school or something?...

i never heard of it...i applied to a lot of top schools in america...

McGill has good reputation in america for sure...you wont have trouble finding a job or anything

Haha it's a common mistake. You're thinking about Wellseley. But Wesleyan is the number 9 Liberal Arts school in America. Thats why I am very nervous about transferring.

i wouldn't call it stigma as much as misinformation....and it's getting rarer and rarer. i've only heard it a few times in texas but of course i corrected them (one guy even thought that ut dallas was a prestigious school..so...yeah..). most employers recruiting fresh grads and etc should be pretty well informed.

mcgill's reputation in the US and internationally is just as good as the ivy schools.

i think wesleyan is probably a much better liberal arts school than mcgill. but it really depends on what you're looking for. they are such different types of schools, and obviously there is something about wesleyan that you dont like. perhaps identifying that would help in deciding if mcgill in fact has what you're looking for.

I got rejected from McGill the first time around b/c of a low SAT II chem, but then asked to be reconsidered and this time got accepted. Except then my parents decided it was too far away and wouldn't let me go so I'm stuck at a safety I have no desire to go to. My question is, if I apply to transfer there, do you think they'll give me another shot since I asked to be reconsidered in the first place and then didn't accept admission? (With trasnferring I'm just ignoring my parents this time and doing what I want.) Also, can you transfer to McGill 2nd semester or would that be too soon?

I got accepted to McGill, but decided to attend Georgetown instead (School of Foreign Service) because I figured that the international relations program is a lot stronger and could get me a better job after college. I'm now having serious doubts about my decision, ever since I sent in my deposit. My parents kind of pressured me into the hasty decision too. I'm thinking of trying to transfer in for second semester or next year. I've never even visited but something inside me keeps on telling me that McGill is a much better choice. If only I had gotten the scholarship I would have definetly gone to McGill, but I think that my materials didn't get in on time because I underestimated the amount of time it takes for stuff to go form NY to Quebec. Is this a normal reaction which will end in me loving G-Town after a while and forgetting McGill or should I follow whatever it is that keeps on nagigng me about McGill and apply as a transfer?
