Should I try for UMich Ann Arbor School of zengineering or just LSA

I want to major in CS at Umich, but I heard it is easier to get in through LSA and then transfer to Engineering? Thoughts?

I have a 3.7uw, 4.14W

1540 SAT (800 in math)

my ec’s are microsoft software internships, game developer, app developer, and other club stuff

what should i do?

Apply directly and early . I used to state if you think you had an advantage of Lsa first then transferring. My son did this for other reasons but also had the stats for engineering to begin with.
But with the last round of acceptances Lsa and engineering are almost identical now. LSA is 3.9 with 32-35 Act and engineering is 3.9 with 34 Act on the last engineering student profiles available.
See what naviance at your school states.

CS is offered through either engineering or LSA, so your choice. Engineering is generally has a lower admission rate, but LSA and Engineering have similar (GPA, ACT/SAT) requirements.

If you in engineering your have to fulfill the engineering requirements. For LSA, the LSA requirements, which include a foreign language if you don’t have AP credit. Also, your AP/IB credit will vary on whether you are in LSA or Engineering for classes like Physics and Chemistry. Engineering doesn’t allow AP credit for certain non-core classes.

Should you decide to transfer you will need to maintain a good GPA. You should talk to admissions for the exact requirements for each school.
