Should I try for US' Univs?

Hi all!

So I am a 12th passed student (passed in year 2013) from India and an engineering aspirant. I appeared for IIT JEE 2013 (entrance test for admission into the IITs - Indian Institute of Technology) But couldn't get in. I dropped a year for preparing for the exam and appear again in 2014.
Now I am wondering whether should I try for the Univs out of India. But given that I am a dropper, will they even consider my application? Also I do not have any great extra curricular activities or awards. Will it be a stupid thing to apply? Now all I can do is to try for an excellent SAT score, and I am pretty sure I'll be able to score well. Can that be enough?
I am not talking about the MIT and Harvard ... A decent place like Univ of Kentucky? What will be my chances if I score good in the tests?

Sincerely!
Thanks!

If you can pay, you can definitely go. I know it for a fact as two of my friends and one cousin have gone. You will get in SOMEWHERE for sure. IIT is tough man, you know that, all of us know that. In contrast to IIT and PMT admissions, US applications are cheesecakes and puddings.

What are your grades like? Then I can give you target scores for schools like Cal Poly Pomona or, if you can stomach the cold, Canadian schools.

Only if you are loaded with money so that you can bear all of your US educational expenses!

Coming to the OP’s question,
Your gap year will not create a negative impact on your application. I was a gap year applicant and I am at Illinois Tech now. Give your stats and there are a lot of people on CC who can offer their opinions and advise you.
