Should I try to take the AP microeconomics test just by studying on my own? (I took the macro test)

Im a rising junior and this year i was thinking about taking the ap microeconomics test. Would this be doable for me if i studied from a textbook or something? Last year i took the macroeconomics exam, and scored a 5. This year my AP courseload is US History, Psychology, and Statistics. Would my base knowledge in macroeconomics help me in any way to score a 5 on this exam?

Yes, there is about a 1/3 overlap between Macro and Micro. You should be able to self-study a 5 on Micro if you put the time and work into it. APUSH might be challenging, but Psych and Stat should not be classes that are too hard, so you should have the time to do the self-study.

Should be completely doable provided you find the time to read the book. Econ is one of the easiest exams and the book just helps explain things in a way so that it becomes almost intuitive after learning it once. If you got a 5 on macro you’ll probably do fine on micro.

Thanks for the help, do you know which books to buy??

I used Krugman’s economics in modules textbook, and my review book was nearly useless; I regret buying it, since my textbook literally covered everything. I got a 5 on both exams, so I think I’m qualified to answer your question. I wouldn’t agree with the other posters regarding overlap, however. Although about 1/3 of the pages you’ll need to read overlap to Macroeconomics, there are many concepts that require much more critical thinking and time to understand in Microeconomics. I had to invest a bit more time to get all the graphs and curves down unique to Microeconomics (for example, why inelastic supply curves usually means higher “demand” for a product). I think the key to a 5 is to understand the intuition in the curves and graphs, and rote memorization might give you a borderline 4 or 5. I think you’ll do fine!

agree with @Newdle‌ , used krugman last year was better than any review book
