i have 2 questions:

1) when exactly do admissions committees get formed? and how does a midyear report get factored into the process (my midyear report improved my gpa pretty significantly 3.77->3.80)

2) is it also too late to update schools about say...sci bowl and ocean sci bowl placings that just happened (assuming leadership positions in each)?

I feel my app is pretty decent 3.8/2340/800s on subject tests/decent ECs, recs, essays, etc. I'm just wondering if i can do anything to put me over the edge. any suggestions?

I think midyear gets factored into the GPA, weighted equally with other semesters.

At this point, it's probably too late. From stats given (specific EC's?) you are a strong candidate at any school. If you send anything now you could look desperate. Just wait it out.

And a 3.77 to a 3.8 really isn't all that significant.

Agreed that it's probably too late and that the GPA change isn't significant, but don't be afraid to email your regional officers if you think it can help you. What's wrong with looking desperate? It means you're serious about the school.

in a purely objective sense, the absolute difference between 3.77 and 3.81 isnt particularly significant per se, but what about this difference in a psychological/subjective sense. I'd think that a 3.8_ compared to 3.7_ would jump out of the page more (not that it does compared to all the 4.0s on CC).

but yea, thanks for answering my question. i was thinking about doing this until caltech decisions came out unexpectedly early (didn't apply btw), from which i guess most schools are finalizing the admit and reject lists.
