I've had the thing since middle school!
I want another calculator, but is it worth it? How are higher models better?

From my experience using both, TI-84s aren’t that much better than TI-83+s, and I haven’t found a single high school calculus class were 89s and 92s were allowed. I think you should stick with it for now.

No it’s not worth it.

in my calc BC class, they rent out tI89s for the school year. They are extremely helpful for homework and such. We also have no calc parts and calculator parts on our tests.

I’ve had mine since 6th grade, still works like a charm

Nah, not worth it. There’s not that much better in a TI-84 versus a TI-83. However, if for some reason this calculator breaks and you need to get a new one, get the TI-84.

I like the 84 better than the 89. It’s easier to use and does everything you need.

Be cool and regress to a scientific calculator.

I got my 83 (not even a plus) in 7th grade and it served me well up through 11th grade. It stopped displaying a bunch of pixels so I had to get an 84 plus. But the difference is not worth the cost of buying a new one unless your 83 does.

^aww it died =[ sad story

Luminuzz, can your ti-84 solve equations, take derivatives, copy and paste, have pretty print , and so much more? (without having to add new programs int he calc)

To solve equations: Math > Solver…: Type in the equation (set to zero). Type in a marker point. The calculator will solve for the value closest to that point (so you’ll have to plug in a different marker for equations with 2+ solutions).

To take derivatives: Math (I think) > nDeriv(

In conjunction with my brain, yes. Yes it can.

checkmate?

I upgraded from TI-83 to TI-84 and then TI-89, but that’s because I suck at math.

I had a TI-84 Plus SE for a few years now but decided to get a TI-89 Titanium for AP Calc to make it easier

We’re required to have a TI-89 (i’m in ninth grade algebra and physics) and I HATE it. It’s so confusing. I used the TI 84 plus all of last year and 8th grade and everything is so much less complicated. Little things like adding or multiplying numbers are a million times harder on the TI-89 a lot of times its easier to use the calculator on my computer.

If you don’t take super crazy math classes, it’ll be fine. It’s not that much different than the newer ones.

actually TI 84s can take derivatives pal… so you wasted you money

I used a standard scientific calculator in middle school. In high school I used a TI 83 for Stats and Calc BC. No need to upgrade if you don’t need to.

get the TI nSpire it looks like the coolest thing ever!
