Hi,
I currently have a TI-83 Plus, and have used it for the past two years. I'm going to take the SAT II Math IIC in October, and wondered if it was worthwhile to upgrade to the TI-89. Is it easy enough to learn that I'll be confident with it on Test Day? This is my main concern.

Thanks for your replies. I've just completed the Kaplan book (despite many conspicuous errors) and Barron's should be arriving any day now.

I held off on Meylani after reading a few negative reviews on Amazon that pointed out the suspiciousness of some of his other reviewers. Has anyone tried his calculator book?

It's easier to have someone teach you to use an 89 rather than read through the manual. I think it's a must for calculus classes, and the benefits are worth the upgrade (although I wouldn't say you NEED it for the IIC exam or that it will necessarily help you score higher). But it certainly couldn't hurt as long as you know how to use it.

I was complete stranger to TI 83, but learnt it from meylani in a very short time (scored 760). I believe the negative reviews on meylani are written by his competitors. I as well as every friend of mine love his books. I still recommend all of his books.

you should stick to meylani, I read the same negative reviews about his book, too; the negative reviewer says excellent to sparknotes' model tesls, which is a complete nonsense. I agree with firehose.

If you have a friend to give you a 1, 2 hours most crash cours on ti89, don't hesitate upgrading. Anywhere you can use ti83, ti89 would beat it.
I think it's banned on act, and i am very surprised it's not done on math 2c. Gives very definite advantage to those who can afford it.
